six week update

I just wanted to write briefly to update everyone on how Aron's doing. This past week, each day, he opens his eyes for brief periods of time. It seems each day we see an increase in open eye moments. When he does open his eyes, it is usually for a few minutes, and sometimes he looks around the room. He also continues to respond to some basic commands, sometimes more quickly than others. Today he was asked to raise his arm, and he did it right away.

The next thing we hope to see is Aron being able to answer simple yes and no questions with a head nod, and to follow people around the room with his eyes. Please continue to keep Aron in your prayers as he works toward regaining consciousness.

My family, Amy and her family, and Aron's friends all appreciate your comments, however we don't always know who you are by your username. If you do leave comments, please sign your name so we know who you are, and so hopefully when Aron reads this blog, he will know also.

  1. This is Paula Rogers from the Breakwater church where Aron attended with the Massey's. Aron was recently my son, Chase's, youth leader at KH. I check this blog daily and pray for Aron. Please tell Amy that I pray for her also and my heart goes out to her. Pastor Kurt also asks for updates. He will be home from Africa on Thurs. Comfort and love to you, precious Amy and all the family.

  7. I know in my heart that God has a plan in all of this. I pray for you and your families each day and am confident that one day soon, you will be back at GMS and stopping by Starbucks to get coffee from my daughter, Alysia. Stay strong and allow God to teach each of the lessons He wants us to learn.

  8. It is so amazing to hear of Aron's progress. I've recently been learning how important faith, along with prayer is.

We often pray & then our human nature puts doubts in our minds. That is when we have to remember that the Lord is able to do ALL things.

Your complete faith is evident by the incredible daily progress that he is making. Continue to pray and trust in the Lord daily!

  15. Keep up the hard work, Aron!

Having been through a battle to regain consciousness myself, I know it's an unpredictable yet eye-opening (pun-intended) time for family and friends. As always, I give my very best to family, friends, and of course, Aron. I continue to devote my best wishes and thoughts to everyone in this tough time. Aron will pull through!

    My best,

  16. Aron, we continue to pray for you.

Tom and Jill: I was with my folks for breakfast at their home one morning. Just as he did when we were growing up, Dad began the morning prayer. In that prayer he said, "God, heal the Shubin boy and bring strength to his family."

    Amen.
    You are remembered each morning.
